Sea fishing is becoming more and more popular among fishing friends because of its abundant fish resources and beautiful natural scenery. However, although the catch of fishing in the sea is generally better than that of freshwater fishing, it also requires certain skills. Just choosing a fishing spot on the vast sea is not an easy task. In this article, the author will introduce eight common techniques and fishing methods for sea fishing, hoping to help anglers.
- 1. Boat fishing
- Boat fishing, as the name suggests, requires anglers to contact and prepare the boat in advance and find the right weather to go out to sea by boat. After arriving at the selected fishing spot by boat, anglers can directly throw the rod down and go sea fishing. Boat fishing can be divided into two types: fishing at a fixed point or fishing with the tide. The target fish of this fishing method are generally near-bottom-dwelling or migratory fish, such as red sweet mullet, grouper, chicken fish, fish ginseng fish, porgy fish, white hairtail and through-pulling fish, etc.
- 2. Trolling
- Trolling refers to dragging the bait on the hook to form a point of motion underwater, and attracting fish to eat bait by simulating underwater creatures. This fishing method mainly attracts surface migratory fish, such as marlin, tuna, and swordfish. This fishing method also requires the help of a boat, and the best fishing spot is at the intersection of the tide. You can choose lures or hang various homemade baits, preferably live bait.
- 3. Heavy beach fishing
- This fishing method requires heavier fishing gear, so before trying it, it is best to make sure that you can afford it. In this sea fishing method, the rods used by anglers are generally long-distance casting rods above No. 30 or rock fishing rods above No. 5, and the rod length is generally more than 14 feet. When fishing, the main line needs to be raised, and the main fish are fished for fish such as mullets, three-toothed fish, snapper and fish.
- 4. Breakwater fishing
- In sea fishing, we often choose to fish at the breakwater. The area around the breakwater is suitable for all kinds of fishing in all water layers, both bottom fishing and floating fishing are possible. In the sea, the existence of the breakwater not only protects fishermen, but also provides a place for fishing. In spring fishing, the fish resources are rich in the area around the breakwater, and everyone can experience the fun of sea fishing without going out to sea.
- 5. One-shot fishing
- This fishing method can catch some fish with high market value, and many fishermen in coastal areas are using this method to fish. Since obstacles such as reefs and sunken ships under the sea provide a shelter for fish, many fishermen will directly catch them with their hands or use thicker fish hooks to fish after preparing bait.
- 6. Lure fishing
- The characteristic of lure fishing is the use of artificial bait. There are many types of artificial baits, and their shapes are also different, but they are all based on the food of fish species living in the water. Fishermen use artificial baits to simulate the activity trajectory of small fish and shrimps underwater, thereby triggering attacks by big fish. This fishing method is completely different from traditional fishing methods. Anglers need to move throughout the fishing process, and it is applicable to a wider range of occasions. Anglers can use it to fish for predatory fish at sea, or to fish for bullfish, swordfish or lure bass on reefs.
VII. Bottom fishing
Bottom fishing, as the name suggests, is to sink the hook bait to the bottom for fishing. This fishing method is suitable for fishing in spring, when many fish species in the ocean begin to become active. It is feasible to fish for small and medium-sized marine fish on reefs or slope protection. Anglers should try to use a long-distance casting rod of about 30-80, or a rock fishing rod of more than 6, and the sub-line should be between 8 and 60 pounds, and the sub-line should be between 20-80 pounds.
VIII. Beach fishing
Beach fishing refers to fishing on the beach. Since the beach is a certain distance away from the sea surface, it is relatively safe and suitable for novice anglers. When fishing on the beach, anglers should choose a rod length between 9-15 feet, and the model should be controlled between 15-35. Anglers can choose sea fishing rods, rock fishing rods or beach fishing rods, which mainly depends on the target fish and their own sea fishing experience.
