I believe that recently, all of you old friends have already started fishing in Ming Water. However, the catch has been mixed with both good and bad results. I hope this post can be helpful to you. The place where I fish is a river in Beijing. The flow varies from time to time, and the water depth ranges from 3 meters to 80 centimeters. From the fifth day of the New Year until now, the results have been about half and half between good catches and poor ones. What are the reasons behind this? Personally, I summarize three points. Veterans of fishing may skip over this…
- Temperature The stability of temperature is closely related to the catch. Some friends might ask, why aren’t there any bites even though the weather is pretty good? There’s no action! I think it’s possible that the fish are less likely to stay at the bottom. You might want to try the off-bottom fishing method. When fishing in running water, increasing the swing amplitude of the leader or using an off-bottom rig could be good choices.
- Water Depth From early spring to mid-spring, I’ve basically spent my time by the water. From fishing in 3-meter depths to the current stable depth of 1.6 meters, I’ve witnessed the migration of fish in the river I’m fishing. As sunlight and temperature gradually stabilize, the fish start to become more active, possibly migrating from deep water to suitable depths. Friends should avoid continuing to wait in the “Position No.1″ where you caught fish last year around this time. If there’s no action for over half an hour, there might really be no fish in the spot. Try looking for obstacles, aquatic plants, or uneven terrain. There might be surprises and unexpected results.
- Bait Spring is the energy replenishment period for fish. Many fish start feeding heavily. Nowadays, there are many commercial baits on the market that claim to do everything, but their advertisements tend to exaggerate. I suggest using a meat sandwich bait instead. Why not throw a few big balls of pure red worms? Because after my experiments, I got nothing… The bait pile doesn’t need to be too large; two egg-sized portions containing medicated rice and barley grains are enough. Start with a small ball and replenish the bait halfway through your fishing session. Fishing for a whole day should be fine with this approach. Some friends might have trouble making the meat sandwich bait, such as it easily cracking or not forming properly. Here’s a little trick you might want to try: The ratio of red worms to dough should be 3:1, with red worms only taking up one third. Secondly, if the bait you’re using has a high content of silk powder (the packaging will indicate the silk powder content, or judge by the size of the bait ball you usually use when fishing.), then there’s no need to add silk powder. If the content is low, and the bait isn’t full, uniform, or large enough, it’s suggested to supplement with 5%-10% silk powder. Add all the water at once when preparing the bait, and it’s recommended to use a small measuring cup. During the fishing process, make sure to keep the bait ball round by promptly shaping it, so the bait pulled out will be both full and solid. In the spring, the wind is strong, so pay attention to the moisture level of the bait ball. It’s easy for the bait to dry out, which would change the state of the bait. If you still can’t make the meat sandwich bait well, it’s suggested to first find a small basin, put the red worms inside, and lightly sprinkle a layer of insect glue on the surface (make sure to sprinkle lightly, like adding salt when cooking), then stir evenly. At this point, add powdered bait and an equal amount of water. This way, the problem of worms escaping and the bait cracking won’t occur, although it might affect the fogging effect, but currently, it doesn’t seem to be much of an issue. The above are some ideas and experiences from recent fishing trips. I hope to share them with all fellow anglers and help everyone. Finally, let me explain that all fish except carp were released. Most of the crucian carp from March to May carry eggs. If they’re small, release them if you can. For the sake of being able to catch them again when they’ve grown.
