Today is the traditional Latern Festival, it is the 15th day of the Chinese Lunar New Year.
In the ancient times, the 15th day is the first night to see a full bright moon, so the day is also called Yuan Xiao Festival. (元宵节)
Because the full moon represents people’s expectation of reunion.
According to the Chinese tradition, at the very beginning of a new year, on the 15th night of new year, there will be a bright full moon hanging in the sky,
So people will meet to celebrate the Lantern Festival, they usually will do:
挂灯笼
There should be thousands of colorful lanterns hung out for joyful atmosphere and good fortune.
猜灯迷
People will try to solve the puzzles on the lanterns and they will get a bonus if their answer is correct.
吃汤圆
There is a sweet food that people must eat in the dinner which is called YanXiao ( a small dumpling balls made of glutinous rice flour) . it means festive.
舞龙灯
In the evening, the local people would go there to see the beautiful lighted lanterns on display.
Today, the displaying of lanterns is still a big event on the 15th day of the first lunar month throughout China.
